Artist Statement

I’m a Seattle-based painter who works primarily in oil paints. In this series of oil paintings, I attempt to confront and wrestle with the problem of human self-worship in some of the forms it takes. By ‘self-worship,’ I mean our general human tendency to overly and uncritically idealize both ourselves as well as others. We rarely, if ever, scrutinize ourselves in an objective manner. These works explore and expose from different angles—and often with a healthy dose of humor—how we hubristically think of our environments as predictable and ‘orderly’, while thinking of ourselves as brave, moral and independent.
